Harold Murphy Spokane

Memorial service for Harold Eugene Murphy, 81, is planned for 4 p.m. today at Riplinger Funeral Home.

Mr. Murphy, a retired Washington State Patrol captain, died Monday.

He was born in Spokane and graduated from North Central High School and attended Modesto (Calif.) Junior College.

He retired from the Washington State Patrol in 1975, after 34 years. He had served in Spokane, Selah, Yakima and Vancouver.

He was a charter member of the Footprinters and was a member of Elks Lodge No. 228, Eagles Lodge No. 2, Sundance Men’s Golf Club, Tyrian Masonic Lodge No. 96, Scottish Rite Bodies and Afifi Shrine Temple of Tacoma.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Helen (Rauschke) Murphy; a son, Judge Jim Murphy of Spokane; two daughters, Julie Winquist of Maple Valley, Wash., and Kathe Renner of Spokane; a sister, Juanita Chappell of Spokane; a brother, Arvid Murphy of Lacey, Wash.; four grandsons and a great-grandson.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Spokane Visiting Nurse Association.

Flora Chute Spokane

Service for Flora M. Chute, 85, will be at 11 a.m. today at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North. Burial will be at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Miss Chute, who died Sunday, was born in Jackson, Mich.

She grew up in Moscow, Idaho, and moved to Spokane, where she graduated from Deaconess Nursing School.

She was a registered nurse and served in the Army during World War II. She also worked for a pediatrician in Spokane for a few years and then worked at Lakeland Village for many years.

She is survived by a sister, Maxine Wolfendale of Spokane.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation.

Mel Quincy Sr. Odessa, Wash.

Service for Mel Quincy Sr., 58, is planned for 2 p.m. today at Heritage U.C.C. Sanctuary in Odessa. Burial will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Goldenrod Cemetery in Tekoa, Wash. Strate Funeral Home in Odessa is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Quincy, who died Tuesday, was born in Fernwood, Idaho.

He grew up in the Plummer, Idaho, area and joined the Navy in 1955.

He worked for the state of Idaho for many years and then for the Kootenai County Road Department for 16 years. He then moved to Odessa, where he worked for the Lincoln County Road Department until he retired in 1991.

He married Doris Mueller in 1962 in Coeur d’Alene.

He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Susan Konda of Coeur d’Alene; two sons, Mel Quincy Jr. of Odessa and Robert Quincy of Yakima; his mother, Wilma Brimacomb of Spokane; a brother, Richard Walkup of San Francisco; three sisters, Betty Nelson and Cleta Amsden, both of Spokane, and Margaret Hobson of Priest River, Idaho; and four grandchildren.

Carol Thompson Spokane

Memorial service for Carol Ann Thompson, 38, will be at 3 p.m. today at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. There will be private inurnment.

Mrs. Thompson, who died Wednesday, was born in Modesto, Calif.

She had lived in Spokane for 29 years.

She is survived by a daughter, Stephanie Slater of Spokane; her parents, Frank and Helen Bushinski of Spokane; three sisters, Teresa Moseley, Diane Hall and Linda Bushinski, all of Spokane; and two grandchildren.

Ruth Fifield Spokane

Memorial service for Ruth M. Fifield, 74, is set for 11 a.m. Saturday at Sunset Chapel at Fairmount Memorial Park. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Fifield, who died Tuesday, was born in Wenatchee.

She was a homemaker and had lived in Spokane for 50 years.

Survivors include six daughters, Barbara Engle and Patricia Grigajtis, both of Spokane, Judy Holmberg of Milton, Wash., Linda Briscoe of Twin Falls, Idaho, Sandra Schmitz of Oregon City, Ore., and Mary Wells of Tacoma; 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Dorothy Hueter Spokane

Vigil service for Dorothy R. Hueter, 91, is planned for 5 p.m. today at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at noon Saturday at Holy Cross Cemetery Chapel with burial to follow.

Mrs. Hueter, who died Sunday, was born in Grand Forks, N.D.

She came to Spokane as an infant with her family.

She and her husband, Ernest, farmed in the Four Lakes, Cheney and Spangle areas for more than 40 years.

She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish.

Her husband died in 1965. Mrs. Hueter’s survivors include three daughters, Jean Courtright of Canoga Park, Calif., Lois Casey of Spokane and Carol Russell of Deer Park; a brother, Raymond Jarbeaux of Wenatchee; a sister, Helen Brown of Kennewick; six grandchildren and five greatgrandchildren.

Russell Hopkins Portland

Private memorial service for Russell L. Hopkins, 44, will be held Saturday.

Mr. Hopkins, 44, died Feb. 24.

He was born at Fairchild Air Force Base.

He worked for the city of Spokane Solid Waste Department and the Postal Service in Spokane.

He had served in the Air Force and was a horse trainer. He had worked at Playfair Race Course and at tracks in Canada, California and Ohio. He also worked at Longacres Race Course in Renton, Wash., for several years and moved three years ago to Portland, where he worked at Portland Meadows.

He is survived by three daughters, April, June and May Hopkins, and a son, Troy Hopkins, all of Spokane; his mother, Verlee Curry of Spokane; two sisters, Gayle McIntyre of Avery, Idaho, and Kim Cornwell of Spokane, and a brother, Alan Hopkins of Spokane.

Weldon Perry Spokane

Visitation for Weldon William Perry, 81, is scheduled from noon to 8 p.m. today at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South. Memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. Saturday at Manito United Methodist Church.

Mr. Perry, who died Tuesday, was born in England, Ark.

He was a cotton farmer until 1942, when he entered the Coast Guard. He served in Hawaii and was discharged in 1945.

He worked in the dietary and pharmaceutical departments of the Veterans Hospital in Little Rock, Ark., until he retired in 1969.

Mr. Perry moved to Spokane in 1986. He was a member of the Manito United Methodist Church Men’s Group and the church bowling league.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Marguerite Cobb Perry; a daughter, Barbara Filo of Spokane; two brothers, Seth Perry of Warren, Pa., and Bobby Jo Perry of Euless, Texas; a sister, Betty Letbetter of North Little Rock, Ark.; and two granddaughters.

Lorin Emery Sumner, Wash.

Service for Lorin C. Emery, 81, is planned for 2 p.m. today at Sunset Chapel at Fairmount Memorial Park. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Emery, who was born in Marlin, Wash., died Sunday.

He was a foreman for Sceva Construction Co. in Spokane for many years and moved to Sumner in 1980 when he retired.

He was a member of Eagles Lodge No. 2.

Mr. Emery is survived by his wife of 57 years, Florence Mae Emery; two sons, Jerry and Doug Emery, both of Spokane; three daughters, Sharon Monson and Penny VanDyke, both of Puyallup, Wash., and Debi Cates of Algona, Wash.; two brothers, Marvin and Quincy Emery, both of Spokane; a sister, Edna Corey of Burien, Wash.; 17 grandchildren and 40 greatgrandchildren.

Ruth Nonini Moscow, Idaho

At her request, no service will be held for Ruth Otness Nonini, 85. Burial took place in Moscow Cemetery. Short’s Funeral Chapel in Moscow is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Nonini, a lifelong Moscow resident, died Monday.

She graduated from Moscow High School and attended the University of Idaho.

She began a part-time baking, cake-decorating and catering business before becoming a gift-sales and advisory employee of David’s Department Store and Dodson’s Jewelers.

She was a member of and volunteer for the Latah County Historical Society.

Mrs. Nonini was preceded in death by her husband, Frances, in 1996. Survivors include a daughter, Judy Nonini Glenn of Spokane; and three grandchildren.

William Marratt III Latah

Memorial service for William J. Marratt III, 74, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Latah Country Bible Church. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Marratt, who died Monday, was born in Jackson, Mich.

He moved to Spokane County from Columbia Falls, Mont., 27 years ago. He was a self-employed painting contractor for 50 years before retiring in 1993.

He was a member of the Latah Country Bible Church.

Mr. Marratt is survived by his wife, Althea Marratt; his mother, Clarisse Karrar of Mulliken, Mich.; three sons, William Marratt IV of Seattle, Jess Marratt of Plummer, Idaho, and James Marratt of Latah; a daughter, Barbara Todd of Bigfork, Mont.; three sisters, Nellie Stadel, Maxine Wildman and Carolyn Wapiennik, all of Michigan; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Bruce Fiedler Walnut Creek, Calif.

Memorial service for Bruce M. Fiedler, 31, was held in San Francisco.

Mr. Fiedler, a former Spokane resident, died Feb. 16 from complications due to pneumonia.

He was born in Spokane and graduated from Gonzaga Preparatory School and Brandeis University in Waltham, Mass.

He worked for First Boston Corp., EDS Computer Systems, Data Inc., and most recently in San Francisco for Kean Inc. as a senior consultant computer engineer.

Mr. Fiedler is survived by his parents, Joanne and Harold Fiedler of Spokane; a sister, Leslie Ann Fiedler of Merced, Calif.; and a brother, Scott Fiedler of Memphis.

Walter Cook Spokane

Memorial service for Walter G. Cook, 61, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Cook, who died Monday, was born in Long Beach, Calif.

He had lived in Spokane for 22 years and worked as a muffler installer.

Mr. Cook is survived by two sons, Mike Cook of Redmond, Wash., and Joe Cook; a sister, Sharon Floto of Long Beach, Calif.; and three grandchildren.

Harry Libby Nine Mile Falls Memorial service for Harry M. Libby, 62, will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Suncrest Family Worship Center in Nine Mile Falls. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Libby, who died Monday, was born in Baraboo, Wis.

He worked as a truck driver for 10 years delivering mail to Spokane post offices. He lived in Spokane for about 20 years and moved to Nine Mile Falls five years ago.

Survivors include his wife, Josephine Libby; a son, Patrick Libby of Spokane; two daughters, Roseann Dickison of Nine Mile Falls and Leann King of Spokane; and a grandchild.
