Key to the game: John Galbreath, Scott Galbreath and Kris Boness of the Broncos (26-4) sealed up the middle on Jon Johnson, who had 18 points and 12 rebounds after cashing in for 32 and 21 Wednesday. “We tried playing him man,” said Ritzville coach Dwight Pflugrath. “He hurt us some, so we went to zone and had better success. I’m sure he’s not used to playing someone like John, who’s 6-5 but has arms like someone 6-10.”

Darrington 47, ACH 41

Key to the game: The Loggers lost a 13-point third-quarter lead when ACH’s shot-blocking Kevin Evers took over. But with the score tied at 35, reserve Dennis Pomeroy picked the perfect time to hit his only shot - a baseline jumper - to end an 0-for-7 Loggers’ shooting slump.

Other highlights: After Pomeroy stepped up, the Loggers regained the lead and never trailed through a bash-and-crash fourth quarter, when open looks were hard to find.

Sophomore guard Ned Miller made the most of his chances, draining 3 of 4 3-point shots on the way to 15 points.

With ACH defensive ace Topher Goodwin in his face all night, Darrington’s Dennis Sherrill didn’t come close to the 31 he scored on opening day but his 15 points and team-high eight rebounds were essential to a team that shot only 24 percent in the second half yet found a way to win.

Evers blocked six shots and had 10 rebounds to rally the Warriors, but his 1-for-7 shooting was typical in a game of bump-and-run defenses.

Republic 50, Manson 42

Key to the game: Three-point shots by Jason Baldwin and Mark Rickard spurred the Tigers to an 11-4 run to close out the first half, when they went from five down with 4 minutes left to lead 25-23. They never trailed in the second half despite perfect shooting by Manson’s Nathan Davis.

Other hightlights: In the 55 years of this tournament, nobody has shot better from the floor than Davis.

Others have shot as well, but you don’t top perfection. Davis knocked down 11 of 11 shots - one a 3-pointer. Curiously, the strong 6-2 junior was a so-so 3 for 6 at the foul line.

Rickard had another strong game with a teamhigh seven rebounds to go with 14 points.

Kris Kuchenmeister’s game-high five offensive rebounds included three important putbacks. It gave the Tigers enough inside presence to counter Davis.
