Pair Seeks To Create Grandkid

Associated Press

A couple are searching for a woman to conceive a grandchild for them from the frozen sperm of their son, who died of cancer several years ago, a newspaper reports.

“It has to be somebody who will let us be gram and grandpa,” said the would-be grandmother, 66, whose husband is 78.

The Milwaukee couple, who wished to remain anonymous, told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel in a story today that they have made two unsuccessful attempts with one woman and are planning a third.

The couple have expanded their search to include married women, although they want assurances they can be involved in their grandchild’s life.

They even have a “marketing kit,” which includes family photos and a letter addressed “to the mother of our future grandchild.”

Their son banked his sperm before chemotherapy because doctors told him there was a 50 percent chance the treatment would leave him sterile.

The couple obtained the sperm samples in exchange for releasing the hospital from any liability.
