Dance Theatre Northwest Set For ‘Tales Of Beatrix Potter’

‘Tis the season for rabbits, what with Easter late this month, and Peter and his cousin Benjamin Bunny hopping about the stage at The Met Saturday.

Dance Theatre Northwest will perform “The Tales of Beatrix Potter” twice that day. Peter Rabbit will be danced by Mandie Diehl, and Megan Hone will dance the role of Benjamin Bunny.

The Beatrix Potter stories include plenty of other characters, too. The cast will include the daffy Jemima Puddle-Duck (Molly Francis) and the Fox (Emily Schmedding), the tail-less Squirrel Nutkin (Eleanor Tripp), Appley Dapply (Shauna Deehr), Tiggy Winkle (Sabrina Waddell), Town Mouse (Amanda Lochmiller) and the Country Mouse (Jaimi McGuire).

The 10-member non-professional dance troupe will be joined by Phillip Broadbent as Farmer McGregor. Broadbent danced with Keil Ballet of West Germany and now owns Empire Dance Shop in Spokane. Janet Wilder, the executive director of Dance Theatre Northwest, choreographed “The Tales of Beatrix Potter.”

The performances are at 2 and 7 p.m., and will be narrated and signed for the hearing impaired.

Tickets are $10 ($5 for children and seniors), available at The Academy of Dance, 14214 E. Sprague (922-3023); G&B Select-a-Seat outlets, or call (800) 325-SEAT.
