Suspected Drug Courier Dumps Marijuana

From Staff And Wire Reports

A suspected drug courier dumped a suitcase containing $200,000 worth of marijuana near the Amtrak station downtown Tuesday night after he was contacted by authorities.

Detectives had received a tip from police in Oregon that the man was headed to Spokane and was believed to be carrying drugs, according to a spokesman for the Spokane Regional Drug Task Force.

Two detectives met the man with the suitcase when the train arrived just after midnight. He refused to talk with the detectives and was released. Minutes later he was seen without the suitcase, and detectives found it about a block away.

Detectives seized the suitcase, obtained a search warrant and discovered the bundles of marijuana inside. About 40 pounds of pot were in the suitcase.

Detectives are still searching for the man.
