Teacher Pleads Not Guilty To Child Rape

From Staff And Wire Reports

A Shorewood Elementary School teacher accused of having sex with a 13-year-old boy pleaded innocent Wednesday to two counts of second-degree child rape.

Mary K. LeTourneau was booked at the King County jail after entering her plea in Superior Court. She was released on her own recognizance, said Dan Donohoe, a spokesman for the prosecutor’s office.

If convicted on both counts, she could face 5-1/2 to 7-1/2 years in prison.

LeTourneau, 35, had sex several times with the boy between June 1, 1996, and Feb. 21, prosecutors said.

LeTourneau, who has worked for the Highline School District for eight years, taught the boy in the second and sixth grades.

She was suspended with pay on Feb. 29.

The teacher is married and has four children. She is expecting her fifth child this spring.
