At Least Four Dead In Plane Collision

Two small airplanes crashed in fields a mile apart after colliding Saturday over eastern Wisconsin. There were no survivors, but authorities believed at least four people were killed.

“It appears there may be two deaths at each site,” Sheriff Thomas Kocourek said.

One of the planes, a twin-engine DC-3, was from Basler Airlines Air Cargo & Passenger, an Oshkosh company which reconditions planes, company President Tom Weigt said. He declined further comment.

Authorities said that plane collided with a smaller, single-engine plane about 700 feet above the ground. “The larger plane was flying a rather straight course and the smaller plane was maneuvering around the larger plane when the collision occurred,” Kocourek said.
