Associated Press

Hillary Rodham Clinton rescheduled her trip to Africa to spend more time with President Clinton, who remained hospitalized Saturday while recovering from knee surgery.

The first lady is now scheduled to leave with daughter Chelsea this on Sunday afternoon, spokesman Neil Lattimore said.

“Mrs. Clinton wants to be with her husband as long as possible,” said Lattimore. “She will pick up her schedule on Monday. No events have been canceled.”

She delayed it until this morning after the president, in Florida for a speaking engagement and a golf game, tripped and fell before dawn Friday and tore a tendon in his right knee.

The surgery was at Bethesda Naval Hospital in Maryland Friday afternoon.

Lattimore said the departure was delayed again Saturday until 2 p.m. todaySunday. Hillary Clinton and her daughter will arrive in Senegal at 2 a.m. local time Monday (4 a.m. PST). They are expected back in the United States on March 30.
