Carl Naccarato Receives Marlene Jones Award

Carl Naccarato, general manager of the Ridpath Hotel, received the Marlene Jones Award at the Washington State Tourism Conference for 25 years of exemplary service in the hospitality/ tourism industry. Naccarato was nominated by the Spokane Area Convention & Visitors Bureau.

The Daniel and Marilyn Johnson family in the Valley have had many, many achievements to celebrate recently.

David and Justin were listed - for the second time each - in Who’s Who Among American High School Students.

Only 1/2 of 1 percent of the listed students are named a second time.

David, a freshman at Western Washington University, was named to the President’s Honor Roll for his 4.0 grade-point average.

Justin is a senior at Central Valley High School, where he was named Outstanding Foreign Language Student. He received a $7,700 President’s Scholarship to attend the University of Portland.

And dad Daniel graduated from Spokane Community College with a 3.97 grade-point average in electronic engineering communications.

Ten Inland Northwest students earned their bachelor’s degrees from WWU at the conclusion of fall quarter. The students and their hometowns are:

Newport: Melissa Brown.

Pullman: Rachelle Jeffers.

Spokane: Melissa Deabler, James DePaolo, Brigid Flynn-Sevier, Kacey Kurimura, Perry McDonald, Tiffany Peterson, Angela Rapp and Katrina Vogel.

Mable A. Fletcher will receive the Volunteer Community Service Award from the Spokane Garry Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution for her volunteer work with Spokane’s shut-ins, street kids and homeless people. She helped start the city’s Meals on Wheels program 23 years ago.

Colin Charbonneau, son of Ed and Faris Charbonneau, Spokane, has been named to the Dean’s List at Franklin and Marshall College, Lancaster, Pa., where he is majoring in business. He is a 1994 graduate of St. George’s High School.

The Rev. Robert Araujo, an associate law professor at Gonzaga University, was chosen as a member of the Delegation of the Holy See to help establish an international criminal court to address crimes against humanity. The committee met at the United Nations in New York City.

Stacey Bierig, Spokane, was named to the Dean’s List for fall semester at Columbia College in Chicago. Bierig earned a 3.75 grade-point average.

Pullman’s Lincoln Middle School Students of the Month for January were: Abby Sarkar, sixth grade, daughter of Dipak Sarkar and Shirley Sanderson; Colin Priebe, seventh grade, son of Chandler and Becky Priebe; and Amy Stevenson, eighth grade, daughter of Richard and Sharlene Stevenson.
