Cda School Programs Earn Merit Awards

Compiled From Wire Services

Programs on forestry and community outreach have earned merit status for Coeur d’Alene High School and Lakes Middle School.

Both schools will receive an “Approved with Merit” award at the June conference of the Idaho Association of School Administrators.

Only six secondary schools earned merit distinction this year, according to the State Department of Education.

At Coeur d’Alene High, the winning program is Advanced Forest Management. The course was developed and is taught by Lori Frank to give students a wide range of perspectives and hands-on experience with natural resource issues.

The program that won recognition for Lakes Middle School is “Links to a Better Community.” Counselor Lynn Morris developed the Links program, which pairs groups of students with organizations that support community needs.

Merit status lasts for three years. This is the first time Coeur d’Alene High has received it; Lakes has done so twice before.
