Deadline Looms For School Board Candidates

Compiled From Wire Services

The deadline is approaching for North Idaho residents wishing to run for positions on their local school boards.

Declarations of candidacy are due before April 19 at school district offices. They must be signed by at least five qualified voters from the trustee zone in which the candidate resides.

Persons interested in running must be registered to vote, at least 18, have lived in the trustee zone for at least 30 days, and be citizens of the United States.

Elections will be held May 20. Terms are for three years.

In Coeur d’Alene, the trustee position held by Wanda Quinn will be open. That board member represents eastern and northeastern parts of the district.

In the Lakeland School District, the seats representing Zone 3 (Hauser/ Hidden Valley) and Zone 5 (Rathdrum) will be open. They’re currently held by Joyce Nowacki and Harry Selby, respectively.

In Post Falls, the Zone 1 seat seat held by Bob Ickes will be open. Ickes represents residents on the south side of the Spokane River, west to the state line.

The current board members haven’t announced if they will run for reelection.
