Vikings Lose Twin Shutouts

Erin Hellberg and Dawn Maher had four hits apiece on the day, and Heidi Bamford hit a first-game home run Friday as Walla Walla swept a non-league softball doubleheader, 12-0 and 5-0, from visiting Coeur d’Alene.

The Blue Devils reached first-game starter Sarah Ballinger for a six-run third inning. The Vikings, playing outside for just the second time this spring, were limited to eight hits on the day.

Returning all-Greater Spokane League pitcher Kylee Curry threw a three-hitter in Ferris’ 3-1 non-league win over visiting Lake City.

Courtney Zimmerman (0-1) took the loss for the Timberwolves, surrendering the three runs during the Saxons’ fourth inning.

Autumn Cheyne had one of LC’s hits. Jennifer Meeker and Brooke Blevins had two hits apiece for Ferris.

Boys soccer

Ty Kovatch scored Coeur d’Alene’s first three goals, and added an assist later during an 8-1 North Idaho League win at Lewiston.

Ben Davis assisted on Kovatch’s first two goals, then added two second-half goals. The Vikings’ Jared Richards had two goals and an assist in the second half.
