Institute Will Offer Classes For Seniors At Least 55

The Institute for Extended Learning is offering a schedule of classes designed specifically for seniors who are at least 55 years old.

Spring quarter begins in April, with classes meeting all over Spokane in senior centers, retirement housing complexes, churches and Spokane Falls Community College. Classes typically draw more than 1,000 seniors from the Spokane area.

There will be sessions on music, oil painting, ceramics, writing workshops, book discussion, bridge, … For those wanting to become more computer literate, classes include Word 7 for Windows 95, an introduction to Macintosh, and Basic Microcomputers (Windows 95).

And beginning, intermediate and advanced Spanish classes are available, as well as Beginning German Conversation.

A variety of fitness classes - Tai Chi, low-impact aerobics, water exercise, and sit-and-be-fit - will be offered.

Watercolor painting will be at the Corbin Senior Activity Center, 827 W. Cleveland and at the the Valley Senior Center, 11423 E. Mission.

Want to learn and eat all at the same time? Early American History will be at Saks Restaurant, 15606 E. Sprague and at the Corbin Senior Activity Center (probably without eats).

Registration must be made at least a week before classes begin. Tuition, not including most lab materials, ranges from $5 to $30 per class, with some scholarships available.
