Teacher Finds Pearl Among The Mollusks

Compiled From Wire Services

When Jean Ozyjowski’s science classes start studying mollusks on Monday, she’ll have the perfect visual aid.

She and her husband were celebrating her birthday Friday night at a restaurant here, courtesy of her sixth-grade math and science students at Allamuchy Elementary School.

“I had ordered the Oysters Rockefeller, because I just love oysters,” Ozyjowski said. “I was probably on the second or third one, slurping it down, when I felt something round and hard rolling around on my tongue.”

As she started to take it out, she thought, “It couldn’t be.”

But there it was. A little pearl.

The pearl was about the size of a small pea, a little too small for jewelry.

“But it was a real birthday treat, and unless I think of something else, I’ll just keep it around so I can smile each time I see it,” she said.
