Classes Share The Wealth All Levels Represented On Washington All-Area Basketball Team

Versatility is how to describe The Spokesman-Review 1997 Washington All-Area high school basketball teams.

The girls have four players who can fill any position around Gonzaga Prep post Theresa Palmer.

Colville point guard Tim Sprangers can direct a boys team where the other players can take most any spot on the floor.

Two players repeated on the girls team, 5-foot-10 Crystal Lee, who helped Central Valley finish second in the State AAA tournament, and 5-10 Tricia Lamb of St. John-Endicott, who led the Eagles to third in the State B tournament. Both not only made all-tournament and all-state first teams, but also were named the most valuable players for their classes statewide.

Lee is the first GSL girl to average more than 20 points a game for a season and finished the year as the school and GSL’s all-time leading scorer. Lamb reached the 2,100-point plateau and finished No. 2 all-time in State B tournament history.

Palmer, a 6-1 post, helped lead G-Prep to its first state tournament since 1983. She is joined by a pair of young standouts from the Northeast A, 5-11 junior Brianne Jolley, who has helped Lakeside to three straight State A tournament trophies, including sixth this year, and 6-1 Newport sophomore Carey Sauer, who led the NEA in scoring as a freshman and was second this season.

The boys have an all-senior team, led by Sprangers, a 6-footer, who was MVP of the Frontier League.

He is joined by the top two scorers in the GSL, De’Andrey Mosby of Rogers, generously listed at 6-2, and 6-4 Chris Anderson of Shadle Park, the GSL MVP. Anderson’s Highlanders made state for the first time since 1992.

Ryan Monroe, 6-3, of Riverside, who led the Frontier in scoring, is also on the team along with 6-2 Mark Rickard of Republic, MVP of the State B tournament for the champion Tigers.
