Wittenberg Slugger Slams His Way Into Record Book

Associated Press

Wittenberg center fielder Bryan Magoteaux hit two grand slams in the eighth inning of a 27-8 victory over Thomas More on Tuesday to tie three NCAA Division III records.

Magoteaux tied the record for number of grand slams in an inning, said Alan Aldinger, Wittenberg sports information director. He tied with Manny Castilla of Rochester, who hit two grand slams in one inning in a 1987 game against Mansfield.

The sophomore also tied with four other players, including Castilla, for most grand slams in a game, Aldinger said.

Magoteaux also hit two doubles in the game, giving him 11 RBIs. That tied a Division III record for most RBIs in a game. Two other players drove in as many runs in one game - Dave Kessler of Wooster in 1986 and Bob Gillespie of Elmhurst in 1993.

According to the NCAA baseball record book, two grand slams have been hit by the same player in one inning 10 other times in NCAA history.

Wittenberg’s 27 runs set a school single-game record.
