Lcsc Students Blast $10 Programming Fee

From Staff And Wire Reports

A proposal to add a $10 programming fee to bring lecturers, films and concerts to Lewis-Clark State College drew sharp criticism from students at a fee hearing.

“This is an education institution, not a entertainment institution,” said April Miles, a senior at Lewis-Clark State College. Spend the money on campus technology instead, Miles said Tuesday, and alleviate long lines in computer labs.

Included in Lewis-Clark State College’s 15 percent fee increase proposal, which would hike a full-time resident’s fees from $813 to $935 per semester, is a new $10 programming fee, intended to support campus activities such as films and lectures.

Brian Kolstad, Lewis-Clark State College’s student body president, said student government initiated the programming fee proposal in response to student input.

“We hear every year ‘there’s nothing to do in this town,”’ Kolstad said. “To spend $39,000 a year to entertain students and provide educational opportunities as well is a small amount to pay.”
