Resort Makes Pass At Mount Spokane Skiers

Silver Mountain Ski Resort in Kellogg reached out Wednesday to disgruntled season pass-holders at the Mount Spokane Ski Area by offering them a $10-a-day ski deal good until the end of Silver’s ski season.

Mount Spokane closed unexpectedly early on Sunday despite having 180 inches of snow left on the mountain. Pass holders, already upset at mountain management for a restricted skiing schedule this year, were furious.

Silver Mountain wants to keep Mount Spokane loyalists skiing in this, one of the best snow years in recent memory, said David Kilmer, marketing director for Silver Mountain.

The $10-a-day rate will be good until April 6, when Silver ends its seven-day-a-week operating schedule. Silver will remain open each Saturday after April 6 until skier interest fades. During those Saturdays, pass-holders from all other ski areas will be able to ski Silver for $10.

“When you buy a season pass, the ski area is making a promise to the skier,” Kilmer said. “We just want to help out those skiers at Mount Spokane.”

Silver Mountain is also courting the ski racing team that usually races at Mount Spokane. The team had a conflict with Mount Spokane management over grooming of a race course and decided to move its race to Silver Mountain. The ski team hasn’t yet decided where to race next season.
