An injury suffered nearly two years ago has forced Oregon punter and placekicker Matt Belden to give up his collegiate career. Belden tore a muscle in his right leg during a second-quarter kickoff at Utah in the 1995 season opener. As a freshman in 1994, Belden led Oregon in scoring with 76 points. … General manager Dwayne Burrows, 56, of Blue Ribbon Downs, was found dead in his home at the Sallisaw, Okla., quarter-horse track. A bloodied trophy was next to the body. Police said it appeared Burrows was struck on the head, but he couldn’t be sure because of the amount of blood. … Jack Nicklaus was named captain of the U.S. team that will compete in the Presidents Cup matches in Australia next year. The Presidents Cup is Ryder Cup-style match-play competition between the U.S. and an international team from nations not eligible for the Ryder Cup.
