Tinsley Dreams Of Opening Night

From Wire Reports

In a career that has seen him traded and reacquired by two teams, Lee Tinsley is looking forward to his biggest thrill in baseball.

On opening night at Seattle, he will start in left field against the New York Yankees. Two years ago, he started in center on opening day for the Boston Red Sox.

“This is going to be more exciting because I’m going back to Seattle, where I started,” Tinsley said Wednesday.

Tinsley, a switch-hitter and a .249 career hitter, will platoon with Rich Amaral, who bats right-handed.

Marzano wins back-up spot

John Marzano will be the backup to Seattle catcher Dan Wilson for the second straight season.

Marzano beat out Brent Mayne, who is on the Tacoma roster.

Griffey, Rodriguez homer

Ken Griffey Jr. hit his third home run of the spring and Alex Rodriguez hit his fourth as the Mariners beat the Anaheim Angels 6-2 Wednesday at Peoria, Ariz.

Griffey hit a two-run homer in the first inning, following an RBI single by Rodriguez. Rodriguez belted a solo shot in the seventh.
