Suspect Arrested After High-Speed Chase

A man told police he led them on a high-speed chase across north Spokane on Wednesday because he didn’t want to get caught driving with a suspended license. Rodney Fisher Jr., 25, was arrested just after 8 p.m. near Illinois and Greene.

The chase began near Baldwin and Ruby when a patrol officer saw the 1968 Chevrolet Chevelle that Fisher was driving run a stop sign, police said. The officer pulled behind the car and turned on his flashing lights.

Fisher pulled away at high speed. He drove all over the North Side with patrol cars in pursuit and ran three more stop signs and several traffic lights, police said.

Police spokesman Dick Cottam said officers abandoned the chase for safety reasons when Fisher hit 90 mph on Illinois.

Seconds later, he lost control of the Chevelle and slammed into a median at Illinois and Greene.

Fisher, who wasn’t hurt, was booked into the county jail on a felony charge of attempting to elude a police vehicle.
