Hungry Villagers Block Train Tracks, Take Food

Compiled From Wire Services

Villagers in eastern Mexico blocked railroad tracks and stole food from a trapped train, a newspaper reported Friday.

“We robbed out of hunger. We do not have work and we need to eat, so do our families,” Luis Hernandez Suarez was quoted as saying by the daily Reforma.

“We put stones on the train track so we could take the sugar and corn,” the 19-year-old farmer told the newspaper.

The Mexico City-bound train was halted on Wednesday in the village of Vaqueria in the eastern state of Veracruz. Several people took part but only Hernandez was arrested.
