The two finalists cradled their trophies and shared a smile in the sunshine, then lined up for photos, with Monica Seles standing in Martina Hingis’ shadow.

Seles is four inches taller, but Hingis towers over women’s tennis. The Swiss Miss needed only 44 minutes to beat Seles 6-2, 6-1 Saturday in the final of the Lipton Championships.

“I almost didn’t make one mistake,” said Hingis, 26-0 this year. “It was just a perfect match.”

Hingis earned $215,000. Seles, playing in her first tournament since breaking a finger in December, got $107,500.

In the men’s singles final today, Austrian Thomas Muster faces Spaniard Sergi Bruguera.
