More Lodging Spots Accepting Pets

Pet owners have varied reasons why they want to take Bowser or Fluffy on vacation with them. And, until recently, there just weren’t many options for lodging that would accept you and your pet.

But that’s changing and an increasing number of motels and hotels will cheerfully let your dog or cat stay with you in your room (although at some there is a surcharge).

Guidebooks with lists of pet-friendly motels ensued and one of the more complete books we’ve seen is the third edition of “Vacationing With Your Pet” by Eileen Barish ($19.95, Pet-Friendly Publications, PO Box 8459, Scottsdale, AZ 85252).

The book covers the U.S. and Canada, listing lodgings where you can arrive with your pooch or kitty in even the smallest towns. Want to vacation at Radium Hot Springs, B.C.? No problem. Seven motels there will book you and your pet. The Seattle listing fills a page and a half and in Spokane there are 44 entries.

Amenities and rules vary, so, as usual, call ahead.

Take a look around

Rain or shine, just make it dry

The Mayflower Park Hotel in Seattle has put together a weekend lodging package with a little twist: the Dry Martini Weekend Package.

The hotel has won awards for Best Classic and Best Specialty Martinis in local competition, hence the idea for the promotion.

The package includes an award-winning recipe for martinis, a martini shaker, two martinis, valet parking and dinner for two in the hotel’s restaurant as well as a deluxe room or suite. Oh, the swizzle stick’s included, too.

Packages range from $235 to $315; for information: (206-623-8700).
