Hints From Heloise

King Features Syndicate

Dear Heloise: When my job required wearing white shirts, “ring around the collar” was a chore of pretreating and brushing prior to washing. Even though I showered each morning, my shirt would need the treatment by nightfall.

One day, my wife placed a bottle of rubbing alcohol and cotton puffs in my bathroom, requesting that I wipe with the alcohol after my shower and before donning a clean shirt. It was amazing how much dirt and grime the alcohol rub removed. A five-second rub and the problem was solved. No pretreatment needed at all at wash time. - John Robbins, Union, N.J.

I’m sure there are many people who would like to thank you for sharing the hint. -Heloise
