Hayden Lake Teen Injured In Accident

A Hayden Lake teenager was critically injured when his car ran a stop sign and smashed into a dump truck Wednesday morning.

Shane M. Lauri, 15, remained in critical condition Wednesday evening at Kootenai Medical Center.

Lauri was on his way to Coeur d’Alene High School about 7:15 a.m. Wednesday, headed southbound on Maple Street, said Idaho State Police Cpl. Jerry Oden.

Lauri apparently drove his 1991 Nissan Sentra through a stop sign at Miles Avenue.

“According to a witness, there was no indication of speeding or anything,” Oden said. “He just failed to stop.”

Lauri was broadsided by a Kenworth dump truck driven by William B. Henderson, 38, of Coeur d’Alene.

Lauri was taken to the hospital. Henderson was uninjured. Neither car was carrying passengers.

Oden said it didn’t seem difficult to spot the stop sign. “It’s the first time I’ve investigated an accident there,” he said.
