T-Wolves Make Easy Work Of Post Falls

The scoring never let up Thursday in Lake City’s 10-0 North Idaho League boys soccer win at Post Falls.

Dan Clark had two goals and one assist, and Derek Houck scored twice for the Timberwolves (10-0-2). LC scored four times in the final 15 minutes.

LC’s match at Sandpoint, postponed Wednesday by rain, will be made up at 6 p.m. Monday.

Baseball

Lewiston 14-17, Sandpoint 4-10

Ryan Thompson hit a grand slam and Aaron Mortlock a three-run homer during a 10-run fifth inning in the second game as the Bengals (14-8, 10-4) swept the visiting Bulldogs in the Inland Empire League.

Ryan Heitmann and Sennett Pierce added doubles during Lewiston’s big fifth.

In the opener, Matt Squires pitched a three-hitter, striking out eight and walking none.

Janessa Karstens and her Mead softball team are on a roll.

Karstens pitched a two-hitter Thursday to lead Mead to its fifth consecutive Greater Spokane League win, 10-0 over host Lewis and Clark at Jack Blair Field.

Karstens (3-3) started the year 0-3. Her third loss put the Panthers at 4-3, fourth place in the league.

Now Mead (9-3) is alone in second place, two games behind University (10-0). Mead and U-Hi play at 8 tonight at Franklin Park.

Mead had eight hits during a 10-run second inning. Missy Bonanno had two doubles and Holly Turner three runs batted in during the inning.

Mead outfielder Katrina Morton made three diving catches to thwart the Tigers (3-9).

Thursday’s other scheduled games were rained out and will be made up at 3:45 p.m. Monday. The matchups are Central Valley at Shadle Park, Rogers at Ferris and University at North Central.

Colin Donahoe pitched five scoreless innings and Grant Reeves hit a three-run homer in the first - his league-best sixth - as the Panthers (10-2) beat the Tigers (4-8) at Seafirst Stadium.

Brandon Muzatko added a two-run single in the fourth, and Joel Calkins scored three runs for Mead. The Panthers increased their league lead to two games over Ferris (7-3).

Other league games were rained out. U-Hi’s game at NC was rescheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday. CV at Shadle and Rogers at Ferris were moved to 3:45 p.m. Monday.

Boys soccer

Ryan Baker scored twice to reach 20 for the season, and goalkeeper Jeremy Nelson recorded his fifth shutout as R/DP (8-3-1, 25 points) beat the visiting Cardinals (2-8-2, 8) in the Frontier League.

Baker’s first goal came on a penalty kick after he was tripped in the penalty box. Winston Hodgson assisted on the second goal.

First-place East Valley, second-place Cheney, third-place R/DP and fourth-place West Valley have all clinched playoff spots. The playoffs begin May 10 with No. 4 at No. 1 and No. 3 and No. 2.

Nick Reynolds, tackled from behind on the end line, scored off a penalty kick for his league-best 23rd goal.
