Elderly Man Sentenced For Attempted Rape

From Staff And Wire Reports

A 73-year-old Blackfoot man has been ordered to spend at least 15 years in prison for attempting to rape an 81-year-old Blackfoot woman.

Glen R. Rath was sentenced by 7th District Judge James Herndon for an assault last November. He was sentenced to life in prison, with a minimum of 15 years.

Rath claimed his asthma medication led him to commit the crime, an argument rejected by the judge.

Deputy Prosecutor Carter Mackley noted that Rath had been out of prison only four months before the latest crime and served 16 years in prison for raping an Ada County woman in 1980. He also served five years for the attempted rape of a woman in Cassia County in 1974.
