Titans Rally Twice To Edge Panthers

Prep softball/baseball

University’s path to repeating as Greater Spokane League softball champion became clearer Friday.

Using one hit - a bunt single - the Titans (11-0) rallied for two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to defeat Mead 6-5 at Franklin Park.

Mead (9-4), which entered the game in second place, dropped to fourth. U-Hi’s lead over second-place Central Valley is 2 games.

Mead led 4-0 in the fourth when U-Hi’s Katy Oglesbee cleared the bases with a triple and scored on Mandy Christensen’s single.

Janessa Karstens’ solo homer in the fifth gave Mead a 5-4 lead. In U-Hi’s sixth, with one out, Christensen struck out, but the pitch eluded catcher Missy Bonanno, putting Kelly Pierce on third. Jen Madsen’s two-out bunt single scored Pierce, then Christensen scored on a passed ball.
