Riverside/Dp Plays Role Of Soccer Spoiler

Riverside/Deer Park can’t win the Frontier League boys soccer title, but it made certain Saturday that someone other than East Valley can.

Jason Remington scored late in the second half to allow R/DP to notch a 1-all tie and spoil visiting EV’s league-clinching party.

EV (12 wins, 0 losses, 1 tie) would have hit 39 points with a win. Instead, the Knights have 37 heading into Tuesday’s league-ending showdown against visiting Cheney (12-1-0, 36). An EV win or tie gives the Knights the crown. Cheney, which lost to EV 4-2 on April 8, takes the title with a win.

R/DP (8-3-2, 26), which clinched third place, opens the district playoffs against No. 2. The champ will open against No. 4 West Valley.

R/DP missed another goal when Ryan Baker was called for a penalty after an apparent score. Raymond Hansen scored his eighth goal for EV, which played most of the match down one player because of an ejection.

EV keeper Gabe Escobar nearly stopped Remington’s shot, but his momentum carried him into the goal.

Baseball

Colville 4-9, Cheney 3-10

Colin Fiddes’ run-scoring single with two out in the 10th inning of the nightcap allowed the visiting Blackhawks (11-4) to split with the Indians (8-6) and break a four-game losing streak.

Cheney holds a two-game lead over West Valley with three games to play. WV, with one game left, can do no better than tie for the title. Colville, with four games left, could still finish first.

Colville won the opener on a three-run rally with two out in the seventh. Justin Fox had a two-run double and Josh Salina walked with the bases loaded.

Pullman reliever Steve Chamberlain threw three shutout innings, entering in the fifth with no out and two men on.
