She’s Already Knee-Deep In Celebrity Blair’s Wife Learns Open-The-Door Policy

Associated Press

Cherie Booth had a rude awakening Saturday morning to the downside of being the British prime minister’s wife.

When a policeman knocked, she opened the door of the family’s home in the up-market Islington area of north London wearing only a short nightshirt.

Suddenly, she realized that dozens of photographers across the street were snapping away.

The look on her face turned rapidly from mild embarrassment to surprise and then horror. She pulled the above-the-knee nightshirt tightly around her and backed away behind the door.

The policeman had accompanied a man delivering flowers to the door.

Booth, a high-flying lawyer who prefers to be known by her maiden name, gestured to the delivery man to bring the flowers inside.

Her husband, Prime Minister Tony Blair, was nowhere to be seen.
