Harper Interests Redskins

Compiled From Wire Services

The Washington Redskins are interested in signing veteran wide receiver Alvin Harper if, as expected, he becomes an unrestricted free agent next month. Harper currently is the property of the Tampa Bay Bucs, but his lack of production and $1.95 million salary almost certainly will force the team to waive him.

The Dallas Cowboys and Miami Dolphins are also believed to be interested, but a move to the Redskins might appeal to Harper - if he’s willing to accept a salary in the $500,000 range.

Harper’s wife, Jamise, is a native of Northern Virginia, and the couple recently purchased a home in Great Falls, Va.

Colts owner Jim Irsay says Indianapolis may not be big enough for two major league sports teams.

Unless the NFL franchise can rework its lease with the city-owned RCA Dome, it will lose $30 million over the next three or four years because of rising player costs.

Irsay’s remarks come as team and city officials continue to grapple with the Colts’ future - and whether Indianapolis can keep the team.

Miami Dolphins wide receiver O.J. McDuffie underwent successful surgery to repair a double hernia. McDuffie is expected to be ready for training camp in July if there are no complications.
