A 9-year-old Bonners Ferry boy is in serious condition after he rode his bicycle onto U.S. Highway 95 and was hit by a pickup.
Brandon Kennedy was in the intensive care unit at Sacred Heart Medical Center on Friday.
He had been with his baby sitter Thursday evening, riding his bike on the sidewalk just south of town. According to the Idaho State Police, Kennedy left the sidewalk and rode his bike into the southbound lane of Highway 95. He was struck by a truck driven by Kip Miller, 32, also of Bonners Ferry.
The boy was not wearing a helmet and suffered head injuries, authorities said. He was evacuated by helicopter.
Kennedy had just recovered from a battle with leukemia. His parents were in Sandpoint when the accident occurred. They were shopping for a birthday present for their son, who will be 10 years old on Mother’s Day.
