North Idaho College Sign-Up Continues

From Staff And Wire Reports

Registration for North Idaho College summer session credit classes is under way, and will continue through June 6.

NIC’s summer session will run from June 9 to July 31. Registration will be held in the Registrar’s office in Lee Hall from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Fridays.

Because classes fill quickly, college officials recommend early registration.

All summer course offerings are listed in the NIC Summer Class Schedule, which is available at offices on campus. For information, call 769-3311. Controlled burn clouds Sandpoint sky Sandpoint A controlled burn of nearly 70 acres left a smoky haze that hung in the sky over Sandpoint Friday afternoon.

The Idaho Department of Lands torched two clearcuts in the Hoodoo Valley southwest of Priest River. The area was being prepared for replanting. Smoke from the burn unexpectedly carried into Sandpoint where residents could smell and see the haze. It prompted a few complaints and calls from residents worried about an early forest fire.

“This is a little unusual. We get the weather forecast and we had good mixing winds predicted for today,” said Larry Fryberg, the area supervisor for the Department of Lands. “It’s mixing all right, but not the way we would have liked it to. We couldn’t believe it, that you could smell it this far away.”

The department has finished the bulk of its burning but the U.S. Forest Service will likely have some controlled burns starting soon.
