Private Plane Crash In Oregon Kills 2

From Staff And Wire Reports

A small plane crashed into a small meadow in the wooded hills near a private airstrip Saturday afternoon, killing the pilot and his passenger, authorities said.

The pilot was Raymond Mayer, owner of the airstrip, said Karen Eubanks, spokeswoman for Tualatin Valley Search and Rescue. Mayer’s passenger was Alex Musatov, 16, of Beaverton.

Mayer was flying a small plane that broke into several pieces and caught fire upon impact, Eubanks said.

The crash was reported at 2:42 p.m. by someone who heard the plane go down, she said.

A crew of paramedics was flown in to the site by LifeFlight helicopter. They put the flames out with dry chemical extinguishers and confirmed the fatalities. The bodies were not immediately removed, she said.

A medical examiner also was flown to the scene and the Federal Aviation Administration was notified, Eubanks said.

At the edge of a heavily wooded area, the crash site is inaccessible by vehicle because of thick trees, gullies and creeks and the Tualatin River.
