Vera Ilyina of Russia won the women’s 3-meter springboard championship at the USA/FINA Diving Grand Prix when a teammate clipped the board.

Ilyina, who trailed teammate Yulia Pakhalina by less than a point going into the final round, scored her best dive, then watched Pakhalina clipped the board during her attempt. Ilyina finished with 538.41 points, while Pakhalina dropped from first to seventh with 470.40.

Si Lei of China finished second (517.41), followed by American Doris Easterly (492.09).

Jambalaya Jazz, with Pat Day aboard, held off a stretch charge by Knockadoon to capture the $51,240 Mustin Lake purse for 3-year-olds and up by a nose at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Ky. It was the first win in two starts this year for the 1995 Kentucky Derby starter.

Careless Heiress, ridden by Joe Bravo, beat pacesetting Song of Africa by a length in the $109,600 Beaugay Handicap at Aqueduct in New York, in the track’s closing-day feature.
