Police To Honor Fallen Comrades

Police from Idaho and Washington will honor those officers who have died in the line of duty as part of a Peace Officer’s Memorial ceremony Thursday.

More than 15 agencies from both states will participate in the ceremony at the Coeur d’Alene Greyhound Park in Post Falls.

The ceremony will be one of many held around the U.S. to help remember the officers who have died in the line of duty across the country.

Starting at 8:45 a.m., a police motorcade will travel from the Idaho State Police headquarters on Prairie Avenue in Coeur d’Alene, south on U.S. Highway 95 to Interstate 90, west to Exit 6, west on Seltice to Pleasant View, south to Riverbend and west to the greyhound park.

The ceremony will start at 9:30 a.m. and will include a 21-gun salute, a roll call of fallen officers and a keynote speech by ISP Col. Ed Strickfaden. The Star Spangled Banner will be sung by Spokane Chief’s vocalist Monica Watson.

Washington has lost 244 officer to violence or on-duty accidents. Idaho has lost 38.
