Spokane County sheriff’s detectives don’t know what killed a man whose body was found Sunday on Mount Spokane.
A Spokane couple spotted the body of Steven D. Lassiter, 37, on the edge of state Highway 291 about 11:30 a.m., sheriff’s Lt. John Simmons said.
Detectives cordoned off the area to look for clues but found few, Simmons said. “It’s obvious he didn’t die there but was dumped,” he said.
Lassiter, who had a lengthy criminal record in both Spokane County and North Idaho, was released from jail just two days before.
Authorities think he may have died of a drug overdose and been driven to the scene by acquaintances. An autopsy is scheduled for today.
Anyone with information about the death, or who may have seen Lassiter in the past few days, is asked to call Crime Check at 456-2233. , DataTimes ILLUSTRATION: Photo
