Idaho S-R Staff Wins 17 Awards In State Press Club Competition

The Idaho Spokesman-Review staff won 17 awards in the recent Idaho Press Club journalism competition.

Staff members received first-place awards in sports news coverage, education coverage and investigative reporting.

The newspaper won second place in the general excellence category. The Idaho Statesman of Boise was the first-place winner.

Here are the first-place winners:

Jim Meehan won in the sports news coverage category for “Cravens fired after ‘so-so’ stint,” a story about Joe Cravens, men’s basketball coach at the University of Idaho.

Julie Titone won in the education category for “Children a captive audience,” a story about industry groups that mix education and marketing in classroom presentations.

Winda Benedetti won in the investigative reporting category for “Budget cuts prevent booze cops from going to bars,” a story about Idaho Beverage Control agents being ordered to stay in their offices to save money.

Other Idaho Spokesman-Review award winners were Craig Buck, Ken Olsen, Betsy Z. Russell, Cynthia Taggart and Eric Torbenson.
