Recknor Named Assistant For UI

Area sports

Hilary Recknor, a one-time basketball standout at the University of Washington, has joined coach Julie Holt’s women’s basketball staff at the University of Idaho.

Recknor, who replaces Angie Miller, comes to Idaho from Bellevue Community College, where she has been head coach since 1991.

“Hilary brings a lot of enthusiasm to the program,” Holt said. “She’s got the tools to be an excellent Division I coach. We’re just real fortunate she decided to make this step.”

In addition to her duties at Bellevue, Recknor has been head coach of the Emerald Hoops AAU team since 1996 and the Seattle Magic AAU team (1990-95).

As a 6-foot-4 post player, she played on three NCAA teams at UW before a brief stint of professional play in Europe. Her post-college career included playing for Ghent, Belgium, and Tromso, Norway.

CCS signs recruits

A transfer from Eastern Washington and seven high school seniors have signed to play basketball at Community Colleges of Spokane, Sasquatch women’s coach Bruce Johnson announced Monday.

Lisa Bocook, a graduate of Reardan and a reserve point guard at EWU last year, will enroll at CCS this fall.

Also signing with the Sasquatch are guard Sally Palmer of Tekoa-Oakesdale and forward Melissa Friend of Republic, both all-league choices.

From the Greater Spokane League is guard Lisa Bradley of Gonzaga Prep; guard Dawn Salfer is from State AA champion West Valley; and forward Kim Wilkins was a member of Lakeside’s State A tournament.

Coming from Kennewick are guard Beth Watson from Kennewick High and forward Katie Norman from River View.

Scott top par-buster

The pros had a field day at Downriver in the Athletic Round Table Pro-Am.

All the cashers, led by Bob Scott of MeadowWood, broke par. Scott was 8 under at 63.

That was good for a two-shot victory over Steve Prugh of Manito and three shots ahead of Mark Gardner of The Creek at Qualchan and Tom Colon of Indian Canyon.

Leading amateurs were Al Scarth of Ponderosa Springs and Jack Leonard of Spokane Country Club with 72s.
