U-Hi Caps Unbeaten Season In Gsl Softball With 12-0 Win

Katy Oglesbee drove in three runs with a double and a triple and Nicki Meyer added three singles to spark the University Titans to a 12-0, five-inning victory at Shadle Park in Greater Spokane League softball action Monday.

The Titans went unbeaten (16-0) en route to the league title. Shadle Park (7-9) finished fifth and will take on No. 4 seed Rogers at 6 p.m. in Thursday’s first round of the District 8-AAA tournament at Franklin Park. Third-seeded Central Valley (11-5) will square off against No. 6 Ferris (7-9) at 3:45 p.m. in the opener.

No. 2 seed Mead (12-4) will play the highest remaining seed Friday afternoon at 3:45. University will play the lowest remaining seed Friday night at 6.

The Bears wrapped up a third-place finish behind the pitching of Tori Mills.

Mills gave up just five hits in running her record to 11-3.

The Lancers jumped out to an 8-1 lead after two innings and coasted to a win over the Wildcats to gain the sixth seed in the Bi-County League tournament.

Ashley Adams drove in two runs with a pair of doubles to pace Liberty. The Lancers will take on third-seeded Ritzville today at 10 a.m. at Odessa.

A doubleheader split between the Grizzlies and Bulldogs resulted in a three-way tie for fourth place.

Newport, Colfax and Chewelah all finished with 5-9 records. However, Colfax came out on top in a coin flip, held earlier in the day, and is the NEA’s No. 4 seed into the league tournament. Chewelah and Newport are seeded fourth and fifth, respectively.

Colfax will host Chewelah and Newport will travel to Lakeside today in loser-out contests. Both begin at 4 p.m.

Panorama League baseball

Jeremy Affeldt struck out 16 to spark the Northwest Christian Crusaders to a 7-3 win over the Republic Tigers in the championship game of the Panorama League tournament at Seafirst Stadium.

The win earns the Crusaders (21-1) a No. 1 seed and a bye into the semifinal round of the District 7-B tournament. Republic (18-4) is the No. 2 seed.

Joe Brucklier went 3 for 4 and knocked in five runs to lead Curlew (19-3) to an 11-2 win over St. George’s (14-8) in a game to decide the third and fourth seeds.

Curlew will play Bi-County No. 4 seed Odessa at ACH on Thursday, while St. George’s travels to Republic for a game against Bi-County No. 3 seed Ritzville. Both games will start at 1 p.m.

Northeast A baseball

Colfax is No. 3 and Freeman No. 5 after winning coin flips to determine pairings for the District 7-A tournament that begins today.

Freeman visits Medical Lake, which lost the coin flip to Colfax, and Kettle Falls, which lost to Freeman, will be at Colfax. Both games are at 4 p.m.

The losers are eliminated and the winners meet Wednesday at the site of the highest remaining seed.

Golf

Ritzville captured the boys District 7-9 A-B Sub-District tournament at Odessa by edging St. John 181-179. The tourney uses the state scoring system, which is figured on points instead of strokes.

Ritzville’s Ryan Benzel shot a par 72 to earn medalist honors. The top 30 advance to the District 7-9 tourney Monday at Hangman Valley along with the Northeast A League.

Chewelah won the boys Northeast A Sub-District tournament at Deer Park GC by besting runner-up Medical Lake 410-423. Chewelah’s Tyson Schalock shot a 2-over-par 74 to take medalist honors.

Chewelah’s girls topped Newport 158-163 to win the Northeast A Sub-District tournament at Deer Park. Chewelah’s Anya Anderson was the medalist with a 9-over par 45.
