Aussie Upsets Muster

Compiled From Wire Services

Thomas Muster couldn’t cope with the scorching heat and gutsy play of Australia’s Scott Draper in the second round of the Italian Open in Rome. Muster, the third seed and two-time defending champion, was treated for severe dehydration after his 6-7 (7-4), 7-5, 5-7 defeat.

Ex-world No. 1 Mats Wilander and Karel Novacek were suspended for three months after withdrawing appeals against positive drug tests, the International Tennis Federation said.

The pair had decided not to challenge tests which revealed cocaine in samples provided at the 1995 French Open, though they denied knowingly consuming the drug.
