Joseph Jordan Receives Scholarship To Seattle U.

Compiled By Tina Caler

Joseph Jordan, a senior at Gonzaga Prep, was one of six students to win the prestigious Sullivan Leadership Award, sponsored by Seattle University.

Each winner will receive a scholarship valued at $80,000, distributed over four years, which includes full-time tuition, a room grant and meal plan.

Jordan is student body president at G-Prep, a member of the Math Team, history and science clubs, National Honor Society and the Student Leadership Council. He plays golf and basketball and volunteers at a retirement center.

Sullivan Scholars are selected on leadership qualities, commitment to community service, and written and oral skills.

Jordan is the son of Jeri and Richard Jordan, Newman Lake.

Nate Crumet, a student at St. George’s School, and Joel Knutson, of Cheney High School, were selected as semi-finalists for the Hellyer Award by Northwest Trek Wildlife Park.

It’s unusual to have two semi-finalists from one area qualify for the competitive, natural history award which attracts applicants from the state’s brightest students, an award spokesman said.

Crumet and Knutson are two of 48 applicants statewide.

Jennifer Johnson, a student at Lewis and Clark High School, received a Lewis & Clark College Trustee Scholarship, one of the highest merit awards given by the college.

The award recognizes exceptional academic achievement and personal accomplishment. The scholarship, renewable annually, provides half-tuition and fees, and is valued at more than $37,000 over four years.
