‘The 5th Element’ Is Great, Sci-Fi Fun

Although it owes a huge debt to Ridley Scott’s 1982 film “Blade Runner,” Luc Besson’s “The 5th Element” boasts qualities of its own. The complex plot is presented in comic-book style, a fact that may limit the audience. But Bruce Willis turns in his standard fine turn, Gary Oldman does a variation on his typical over-the-top performance and Milla Jovovich is striking as an alien saviour. The special effects are computer-driven ambrosia. , DataTimes ILLUSTRATION: Photo
