In 1620: The first merry-go-round was set up at a fair in Turkey.

In 1792: The New York Stock Exchange began trading under a tree on Wall Street.

In 1883: Buffalo Bill Cody presented the first Wild West show in Omaha, Neb.

In 1954: The U.S. Supreme Court issued its Brown vs. Board of Education ruling which overturned the previous doctrine of separate but equal. It ordered schools integrated.

In 1971: Washington became the first state to ban sex discrimination.
