Man, Boy Arrested In Murder Case

From Staff And Wire Reports

Two Wallace residents have been arrested in the murder of Melvin A. Evenson, whose body was found April 16 in an abandoned pickup truck.

Clifford A. Hicks, 44, and a 14-year-old boy were booked into Kootenai County jail on Friday, the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Department reported Saturday.

At least one more arrest is expected. Officers said more information would be released on Monday.

Evenson, 53, was murdered during a robbery at a rural residence in northern Kootenai County at the end of March, according to Saturday’s brief report.

Evenson’s naked body was hidden face-down under boxes in the bed of the pickup, which was abandoned off Chilco Road. The truck was “some distance away” from the murder scene, according to the sheriff’s department.

Investigators said earlier that Evenson’s death was due at least partly to a blow to the head.
