Colorado St. E Hilbert

University of Idaho volleyball coach Tom Hilbert will interview today for the vacant Colorado State job in Ft. Collins.

Sources close to the situation say CSU has identified Hilbert as its top candidate. CSU has interviewed three others, but its attention has turned to Hilbert.

Hilbert was unavailable for comment Monday.

CSU is a member of the Western Athletic Conference and advanced to the NCAA Tournament last year. Hilbert has led Idaho to five straight regular season and/or post-season tournament titles.

North Idaho Cup champion Coeur d’Alene and league champion Lake City combined for seven spots on the first team as North Idaho Soccer League coaches announced their all-league teams Monday.

Additionally, nine from the two Coeur d’Alene schools were selected to the second team, seven of them from Lake City.

Also, John Smith of Coeur d’Alene was selected to coach a North Idaho all-star team that will play a team from the Greater Spokane and Frontier leagues in an exhibition June 21 in Albi Stadium before a Spokane Shadow game.

On the NISL first team are four from CdA - Ben Davis, Ty Kovatch, Joel Grabenstein and Darren Baune. From Lake City are Dan Clark, Noah Beck and David Hill.

Sandpoint also had four first-team picks - J.P. Huguenin, Jason Campbell, Charles Wells and Lawson Tate - and Lakeland (Wes Sabo) and Post Falls (Chad Baker) landed one player each.

Moscow led the first-team choices with five - Jason Kuska, Scott Strobel, Tony Gagon, Mike Rowton and Tim Garton.

The field may have been depleted, but it would have taken a sizzling effort for anyone to overcome Randy Buckenberger of Twin Lakes Village on Monday in the Athletic Round Table Pro-Am at Wandermere.

Buckenberger put together nines of 34 and 31 for a 5-under-par 65 and a one-shot victory over amateur Dennis Jenkins of MeadowWood (33-33).

Many of the Spokane area pros and assistants are in Tacoma for the BMW Washington Open.

Dan Porter of Downriver was second among the pros with a 68, and Tom Colon, Indian Canyon, and Bill Ross, Wandermere, had 69s.

Four amateurs also checked in with 69s - Dick Bingham, Spokane Country Club; Ray Kenney, Esmeralda; Sean Clements, Wandermere; and Brian Carney, The Creek at Qualchan.

Indian Canyon assistant David Christenson led the Spokane contingent in the first round of the BMW Washington Open in Tacoma.

Christenson’s 1-under-par 71 left him four shots behind leader Keith Coleman, an amateur from Mukileto, Wash.

After today’s second round, the field will be cut to the top 65 pros and ties, and all amateurs within that range.

Other area golfers and their first-round scores:

Gary Lindeblad, Indian Canyon, 73; Kan Koesters, Washington State, 74; Mark Gardner, Qualchan, 75; Steve Prugh, Manito, 78; Scott Shagool, Manito, 79; amateur Kent Brown, Colville Elks, 79; Michael Rorholm, Spokane, 80; Don Rasmussen, University of Idaho, 86; Mark Rohde, Liberty Lake, DQ.

Former Spokanite Chris Mitchell of Tumwater Valley is at 74.
