Booby-Trapped Beeper Injures N.Y. Waitress

Compiled From Wire Services

A booby-trapped beeper hand-delivered to a waitress at her restaurant exploded and blew off one of her fingers.

The intended target apparently was her brother, who lost the beeper during a fight with another man over a woman, said Deputy Inspector Gary A. Foote.

Jason Zukas, 23, lost the beeper earlier this month, and someone intending to harm him rigged it with an explosive, police said. It was given to his 25-year-old sister, Tara Zukas, in an envelope, and it exploded Monday when she put in a battery at the Five Burro Cafe in Queens, police said.
