Worker Drowns In Coconut Oil

Compiled From Wire Services

A worker at a margarine factory in the Ukrainian capital drowned after falling into a vat of coconut oil, a newspaper reported Tuesday.

The body of the 40-year-old production line manager at the Kiev Margarine Factory was found in the vat shortly after he was reported missing last week, the daily Kievskiye Vedomosti said.

Authorities said it was unclear whether the victim, whose name was not released, fell into the vat or was pushed. Police were investigating.

Factory director Boris Zhibelev moved to allay fears the margarine was tainted, saying the products were safe because the oil had not been used in any recent production.
