Car Hits, Kills Two Children

Associated Press

A car struck and killed two children crossing a busy street Wednesday evening in south Seattle, police said.

A 6-year-old boy and 6-year-old girl were declared dead at Harborview Medical Center.

Police spokeswoman ChristieLynn Bonner gave this account:

Two boys and a girl were trying to cross from the west to east side of Martin Luther King Way shortly after 6 p.m. All three were struck by a northbound older-model Cadillac driven by a 66-year-old man.

The two children who died had a bicycle, but it was unclear if they were riding it at the time, police said. Some witnesses told KING Television the two were on the bike and were dragged by the car half a block.

The other boy, who was pulling a small wagon, suffered only minor injuries.
